Taekwondo is an exciting Olympic sport recognised from
its two combatants aiming fast kicks to protected body areas to score points.
The game's outcome is determined by the player who has accrued the most
points over two rounds.
Taekwondo has been introduced as an alternative fitness
programme in schools by Hampshire County Council, to specifically address
individual pupils disenfranchised from mainstream sports.
Taekwondo Development Officer, Mark Hayward describes
Taekwondo's impact, "Kids love kicking, and when you give them this
opportunity in a controlled, safe arena, then you have something very
special."
Hampshire P.E. Inspector, David Gott agrees,
"Taekwondo is becoming more and more mainstream, especially with its
full Olympic status in London and Beijing. I'm delighted
to see it being delivered in PE. Who knows? a Hampshire pupil could be up
there in 2012!"
