Welcome to Spitfire Taekwondo Academy

Named in homage to local heritage icon, Spitfire Taekwondo is the one of the premier Taekwondo academies in the South of England. Re-launched from City of Winchester in 2003, Spitfire Taekwondo has classes across Southampton, Eastleigh, Winchester, Farnborough, Aldershot & Brighton teaching this exciting Olympic Sport.

Experienced and friendly instruction comes from a key group of accredited, CRB-checked WTF Blackbelts, whose modus operandi is to deliver safe, consistent, high-quality taekwondo.

The age demographic of Spitfire members, spans 5 to 50 year-olds, with a 50-50 split of female to male. The uniting factors of these diverse age groups are the desires to enhance: fitness, physical skill and value of self. On a social level, multiple friendships are built during the training and extensive number of additional activities offered by this remarkable academy.

Spitfire Taekwondo also works in partnership with Hampshire County Council, has been solely instrumental in the introduction of Taekwondo into the mainstream of PE activities across Hampshire’s Schools through the
Schools Taekwondo Partnership.

If you are new to Taekwondo

Seeing Taekwondo for the first time provokes a chain of emotions; fear, amazement, intrigue, compulsion to joy. As one of the five OLYMPIC combative sports, its unique, purity of kicking underpins its sheer beauty as a combat form. Taekwondo has gained massive popularity both globally and in the UK; seeing it in action there is no wonder why! The UK now has one of the most advanced elite Taekwondo academies in the world with focus on London 2012 medals.

Taekwondo athletes play their matches with the purpose of out-pointing their opponent with kicks to the protected areas of body and head, and of course avoiding the return compliment. But this is no toe-to-toe thuggary; the competition is based on speed and skill with proponents performing astonishing feats of agility in the name of stealing THAT point!

There is a serious side to Taekwondo: as a self-defence system, it expands on the kicking to include blocking, punching and restraining. At Spitfire we employ the universal structured programme that leads to a blackbelt qualification. This programme delivers increasingly complex and effective defence techniques, that are regularly assessed to qualify through a series of coloured belts.

If you've done Taekwondo before

At Spitfire Taekwondo Academy we are proud to offer excellent tuition in both the Olympic sport and self-defence system deliveres from a large, diverse team of Kukkiwon blackbelts. We employ the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) syllabus for the defence and sport system.

Spitfire Taekwondo Academy offers highly focussed sport training, and all the competitive levels from inter-club, regional, national to European A-Class test-event. We are very proud to have so many current members who compete at all levels, both domestic and European. There are usually three or four opportunites to travel with Spitfire every year to compete or supprt our A-Class players. Our sporting tradition is key to our success as a taekwondo academy, and a truely exhilarating tradition to share.

Spitfire instructors Mark and Alex, are trained by the Team GB elite coaching squad to develop young athletes to elite level using contemporary sporting prcesses from fitness through nutrition to psychology.Their training regimes are as diverse as they are challenging, as current players will give testament!

Spitfire Taekwondo Academy welcomes all taekwondo practioners and respect any previous grade attained. Our ethos is of mutual respect, positive "can-do attitude" and determination. We have no interest in the cod-philosophy that comes attached to many martial arts; we do not use the address of "sir" or "master" nor do we regard any grade above another. Our primary motive is enhancing the capabilies, aspirations and fitness of every single individual member ofSpitfire Taekwondo Academy, making it such a formidable force to be part of.
